This course introduces the principles of quality assurance and precision measurement in manufacturing environments. Students will learn and apply quality control methods, interpret quality standards, and operate common metrology tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMMs. Emphasis is placed on inspection techniques, documentation, and maintaining compliance.

Quality Systems
Understanding the role of quality assurance in manufacturing
Differentiating between quality control and quality assurance processes
Application of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Plotting and interpreting control charts (e.g., X-bar, R-chart)
Identifying trends, variation, and out-of-control conditions
Using SPC to support process improvement and stability
Interpretation of Quality Standards
Understanding and applying ISO and ASQ quality standards
Recognizing the structure and purpose of formal quality systems
Maintaining compliance with industry and customer-specific requirements
Metrology and Precision Measurement
Accurate use of common measurement tools:
Vernier and digital calipers
Micrometers (inside, outside, depth)
Height gauges and dial indicators
Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)
Reading and interpreting technical drawings and dimensional tolerances
Inspection and Documentation Techniques
Performing in-process and final inspections
Recording and communicating measurement data effectively
Completing quality documentation such as inspection reports and checklists
Compliance and Systematic Quality Practices
Understanding audit readiness and traceability requirements
Supporting continuous quality monitoring and corrective action efforts
Participating in maintaining a culture of quality and accountability
